Food

We are growing increasingly dependant on a global food system to put dinner on our tables, it's a system that is completely out of our control

and is reliant on a plentiful supply of cheap oil for transportation and petrochemicals.

The rising cost of oil is putting another strain on food production as valuable food growing land is turned over to agrofuel production, the effects of this are already being felt here with rising costs of basic ingrediients. the effects on the third world have already been devastating with prices for basic foods such as rice has lead to widespred starvation.

When oil prices rise food costs rise, what happens when the oil becomes too expensive to transport the food that we need? Can we produce enough food locally to sustain ourselves? What food can we grow in Hebden Bridge? How much land will we need? Will we all have to spend our days in the fields?

These are complicated issues that will be tackled by our food group to feed into the energy dissent plan.
