About Us
Transition Town Hebden Bridge is about facing up to the challenges of Peak Oil and Climate Change and coming together as a community to make a long term plan of how to make our town and the surrounding areas sustainable.
We think that if the plan is going to work then it needs to come from the community, businesses and groups that it affects.
To get to the point of having a workable sustainability plan for Hebden Bridge and the surrounding area we are going through the following stages.
Awareness Raising
This is the stage we are at now, for the past year we have been putting on a variety of events to help raise awareness in the town about peak oil, climate change, and issues around transition town.
This stage is important so that as a community we come to a general understanding of what the issues are and then work on a collective plan about 
what we should do about it. We have a few events coming up such as the community bread baking day and the 'Transition Zone' at the big green weekend. We also have a monthly page in the Hebden Bridge Times and we are busy writing a booklet about Transition Town Hebden Bridge and all the issues to give out at our events.
Everyone is welcome to get involved with all the things going on with this stage and various sub groups are meeting regularily so contact us if you want to join in or visit our get involved pages.
Contacting Existing Groups
One of the great things about doing a Transition Town here is that there are already really good groups doing lots of work towards making us a sustainable town, what we hope is that when we are making our energy descent plan all of these groups will input their experience and knowledge into the parts of the plan that they have expertese in.
We are currently trying to map all of the groups that are doing things in and around hebden bridge so that we can meet up with them to see how we can support each other. We would like to give each group space on this site to promote what they do. The group pages will then be a useful online directory of whats going on in our area.
This is a lot of work so we really need help here, if you would like to join the group working on this then please contact us, if you are in a group and think you can help, or would like to meet up or have a page on this site and be included in our directory then please contact us.
The Launch
The big launch of Hebden Bridge Transition Town will be when we officially begin our work on the energy descent plan, this will be a chance for everyone to get together and vision our future, get inspired and join one of the practical working groups such as food, energy, transport, health, economy and more.
